Start with what you can report without entering a wet room. A provider, not a website category, determines the cause and which materials require work.

Is the suspected source a water heater?

The water-heater guide separates equipment failure from damage to adjacent building materials. A water-quality report about public supply cannot say what happened at a private connection.

Are cabinets or their contents affected?

The cabinet-materials guide asks what is behind a visible finish and how an estimate distinguishes drying from replacement. It does not advise anyone to open a wall or cabinet.

Is water entering around a garage threshold?

The garage-entry guide treats rainfall entry, drainage and building openings as questions for assessment. Costa Mesa's participation in a public stormwater program cannot determine why one garage is wet.

Is contamination possible?

The contaminated-water guide explains why labels such as “clean” or “gray” must not be self-assigned. EPA describes hazards of floodwater and the role of qualified assessors.

Stay away from the affected area, do not touch electrical switches, outlets or appliances near water, and call a professional. If anyone is in danger, leave the area and call 911.

If you need a price discussion, use the cost model only for planning, then seek a line-item scope. No guide on this website certifies a professional or promises availability.
